Is FriendFeed Down for the Count?

When I got up this morning and checked my email I saw that someone new was following me on FriendFeed. Wow! FriendFeed. I’ve not looked at that account this year, I don’t think. I even have it listed, on this site, as a way to find me. It got me wondering though, is FriendFeed going the way of Pownce? Just because I haven’t used it in a while doesn’t really mean that everyone isn’t. Or am I not using it? Looking at my account it seems that I posted just a few minutes ago. Everything that I post to Twitter pushes to FriendFeed, and vice versa. I kind of have a fire and forget setup here.

Fire and forget, hmmm, one of the things that FriendFeed has going for it is it’s comment system. You can comment on someone’s post right at the point that the post was entered. A thread begins there and, hopefully, a discussion follows, much the same as comments on a blog, or on a Facebook update. I don’t have any comments. Maybe I’m not that interesting, maybe since my updates are based out of Twitter, people don’t bother to comment. Looking at seven other random accounts, these people weren’t getting comments either. Even Robert Scoble, who’s feed used to just fly by when watched and was commented on regularly, had relatively little content. In fact, the majority of his updates came from a push from Twitter. This from the man who used to sing the praises of FriendFeed. Actually, almost all of the posts in my feed are coming from external sources.

FriendFeed isn’t dead yet, but then again MySpace is still open too. What are your thoughts?

Note: As I was finishing this post I found this update from Robert Scoble:
