Social Media For….Fun?
Social media started out as fun. Seriously. Social media originally had nothing to do with marketing, getting more hits on your blog, or getting the most followers. Lately though, it (social media) has become a mine field of this marketing campaign or that fan page (are they even called fan pages anymore?). Slowly but surely, the fun is leaving social media. Really, Google any range of “Fun with Social Media” type queries, and see what you get. When I ran these social-media-fun queries in Google I got the opposite. I got “Social Media: it’s not just for fun”, and “Social Media: For Fun and Profit”, and my favourite, “Social Media: It’s All Fun and Games Until Someone Steals Your Identity”.
Lets not forget that according to Dale Carnegie:
“People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing.”
Let’s get back to the fun conversations for the sake of fun. Let’s get back to meeting people because we found them interesting, not because we think we can sell our latest idea to them. Spend some time on whichever social media platform just having fun talking and sharing, without the thought of getting a return out of it. Many of us still do it, but many don’t. Spend a day in the social media arena, simply having fun. You’ll be surprised at what you find.
