Cory Booker Snows How to Use Twitter

Cory Booker is the Mayor of Newark, New Jersey. He is also on Twitter (@CoryBooker). When Newark got hit hard by a snowstorm this week, Cory took to Twitter in an effort to keep lines of communication open. For three days now he has been in contact with the cities residents, in a very unique, hands on, response to their emergency. Cory said that Twitter has been “very, very helpful” in dealing with the emergency situation. “It expands my ability to make a positive impact on my constituents and meet the needs of the city,” he added. He has helped people get their...

Where to Begin?

Lists, lists, and more lists. Where to begin? I’ve got to read up on this, and format that, all while researching another project, and that’s just the start. I need to tweet this, and post that. Update here, and reply there. Sound familiar? It probably does. Our day to day lives can get muddled and out of sorts at times. I know mine does. I’ll go from a highly productive day, to a day that is scattered and un-organized where it seems that I accomplish next to nothing. Prioritize is your only answer. In a effort to clear away your mental desk quickly and efficiently...

For What’s It’s Worth, I Am a Twitter Snob

A couple days ago, Mark Schaefer (@markwschaefer), and Mitch Joel (@mitchjoel) had a conversation on Twitter followers. Do you follow everybody, or is it better to be a bit of a snob and be more choosy? In case you haven’t been following the conversation between these two guys, it’s always very interesting. They are self described arch-nemeses, and they have a great interaction that makes for great listening. First off, if you haven’t heard this podcast yet, you can find it here. Second, I just want to take a second to weigh in. I am a Twitter snob. I’ll explain. I...

Work Offline

This soccer season overextend my family’s finances to the very extreme. Keep in mind that there are five kids that were in five different age groups. That panned out to be eight practices a week at various locations around Knoxville, and five games every Saturday, some of which were played “on the road”. I jumped up to 400 miles a week worth of driving, plus food, trophies, end of season parties, and tournament fees. The end result, financially speaking, is that for a short time I have no internet access at home and no phone service. I would’ve thought that this...

LinkedIn Allows For Twitter Push: Don’t Do It.

You now have the ability to push all of your Twitter updates to LinkedIn. Bad move. I definitely do not recommend doing this. Are you active on LinkedIn? If not you should be. It is an amazing site that you can find all sorts of business contacts, start discussions, speak about what you do know, and learn from others about the things you don’t. However, that is the basis for LinkedIn, business. Twitter is wide open in its uses. With LinkedIn we update to tell about what is going on with us in a business aspect. The kind of interaction that goes on in Twitter, IMHO, has no place...
